Blog Post 5: Mise-en-Scene

Lighting: One thing I noticed about the lighting of this scene was it's very dark. The main thing that you see is the pale man, and not much else. You can see Ophelia when she's opening the door where the knife is, or when she eats the fruit and wakes up the pale man, but the rest of the lighting emphasizes the pale man. The lighting is extremely dark on the table to; you can hardly see what fruit she's eating and what else is on the table when she's in the room. This lighting makes the scene so much more creepy. It makes the pale man a little bit scarier too because we actually get to see him more than everything else in the background. Sound: I think the sound of the scene is diegetic. Whenever something intense or bad is going to happen, the music becomes more intense or frightening. I noticed that whenever the pale man is on the screen, the music doesn't get louder, but you can tell that the music is at the scarier or creepier part of the song. Costumes and Make-up: The costumes are quite interesting. I think the pale man is extremely creepy, but he has really good detail in the way that he was designed. He has skin pieces coming off of him on every part of him. It's quite gross! Ophelia is dressed in a dress, which little girls always like to wear. It's not over-done or too much, so all the emphasis is on the pale man. The make-up is the same way. Ophelia's make-up is very settle, not really noticeable either. The pale man has so much detail to his costume, but I'm sure the facial parts and the other color details are done with make-up. I think that makes even more unique and different. Behavior of figures: I think that you can tell the behaviors of the characters by thr angles of the camera. when Ophelia is running from the pale man, they don't zoom to her face until the door is closing and she's pushing up on the door above her. Then we can see the fear on her face. The camera only zooms up on the pale man when he wakes up and when he eats the fairies. Then it pans back to Ophelia and her face. They show her fear of the pale man versus just the scene itself, which also makes the scene more intense and creepier. Blog 5: The child and adolescence displayed in the scene contributed a lot to the meaning and the structure of the scene. I think that it builds the intensity of the pale man and Ophelia's fear as she's going in to get the knife. I think that this is important because Ophelia is only a little girl. It makes the viewers a little more attached to her because she is a little girl. I think that children are depicted of times of terror because children are always viewed as innocent. I think that mindset of children helped intensify the scene. This shapes the meaning of the scene because without the thought of children being innocent, we wouldn't feel anything while watching Ophelia run from the pale man. It wouldn't make us connected to the character at all. I think it was important to make Ophelia young because we love her more than we would if it was an adult going through through this journey.

After reading the article below, I think about my job, and what I post on my Facebook. What would happen to me if my future boss were to see a picture of me doing something I shouldn't be? It makes you think about how the social media world could change your life forever. Picture this: you went to college for 8 years trying to become a lawyer. Then the firm that you're trying to get into goes on Facebook and types in your name. Up pops your profile, and a picture of you drinking when you were in High School. Automatically declined the job. And that's going to make it even harder to find a job. Today, people don't think about what could happen to you by posting the drunken picture. Teenagers are especially guilty of this. We all think we are so invinsible and nothing ad will ever happen to us. Until it does. Back when my mother was growing up, none of this was a problem. Now, you see it everywhere. You even see crimes committed on Facebook because teens aren't thinking about the consequences of their posts. Bullying is at an all-time high. Soicla media sites aren't being used for good things anymore, at least, teens aren't using them for anything good anymore.

When my english teacher gave us a survey on the first day of her class, she asked us what media literacy is. The irony is, I'm an 18-year old girl and I didn't have an answer for her. I use Facebook, texting, Pintrest, and other things on my computer, but i could not answer what media literacy is. After thinking, and googling, I've come to realize that actually, it's more broad than just using social media websites. It's more of if you can communicate and interpret ideas or opinions through non-verbal communication (meaning the internet, social media, etc). Media literacy, basically, is all teenagers. They all use every social media site under the moon, so they'll be great at communicating non-verbally.

I would consider myself to be media literate. I don't use Twitter or Instagram, but I have a facebook account and I text all the time. There isn't a moment where my phone isn't reachable. I can communicate with people non-verbally, and express my views, opinions and feelings non-verbally, or through a text message. Do I think that it is appropriate to always text and always have conversations over text, no. I would prefer talking in person or at least on the phone, but as an 18-year old girl, I understand that sometimes it is difficult to always talk in person or on the phone. So text is the only way to talk. Some people say, "You have phone addiction Alysha, you can't put that thing down," but in my defense, what teenager doesn't? Texting has become a huge part in today's culture, but it doesn't always have to be. I think that I am media literate because of the way that I can communicate with others non-verbally.

I agree with Postman because it's true. The fact that social media has become apart of our culture is stupid, and the fact that teenagers don't see how it effects you is pure stupidity on their part. They don't realize how dumb it is to constantly be on a social media site all the time. It consumes them. Which is why I won't ever join Twitter or Instagram. I just don't see the point.

Design- Blog 2

Colors. Every one sees them, but no one really thinks about them. Waking up in the morning, I usually pick out my outfit according to the mood I'm in... and sometimes finding myself picking out colots that coordinate with my mood! If I'm feeling cheerful and happy, I'll wear a bright color, like orange, pink, or yellow. If I'm sad and gloomy, or even tired, I'll wear clack, blue, purple. Or on the occasion, I just pick the color because it's pretty! I'm big into colors because they say so much about you when you walk into the room. if someone is wearing a black dress, think eye makeup and dark lipstick, you'll usually know their personality by the colors they have on. If someone like me, who usually is bubbly and a bright person, comes in the room wearing yellow or pink, you'll be able to tell that I am fierce and a very bright person.

I have an internship at Local 12 News. I was asked to help the interview process for the new interns. They let me ask a few questions, and one of the questions I always ask is, "If you could be any color, what would you be?" My answer is always yellow, because it's bright and bold, and that's how I think my personality is. You can tell a lot about one's personality and character by their answer to that question. that's why I love colors and love the symbolism behind the colors of the rainbow. It's so expresssive and a great way to express your personality. That's why I chose the light, sky blue and white as my blog layout. It's a pretty, neutral, so it's not distratcing, but I think that it's a good representation of my writing.

My name is Alysha Renee Schneider. I am 18-years old, and currently living in Mason, OH. I have one brother and one sister. My brother's name is Logan, and he is 11 years old. My sister's name is Anna and she is 8 years old. they mean the world to me, no matter how much they can bug me sometimes! My parents are a huge part of my life, even though I really want to go to college and be on my own. My mom, Carly, is my best friend. I have one dog. He is a golden retriever named Louie. He;s my baby. He's 4-years old, and I still call him puppy. I am a senior in High School and will be attending Northern Kentucky University, which I am very excited for! .

Some of my favorite things inculde the color purple, dancing and singing randomly, driving, spending time with my little brother and sister, macaroni and cheese, Mazda cars, and shopping! You can usually find me out with friends, or watching a movie with my family. I love watching key and Peele on Comedy Central. I love laughing, so anything that can make me laugh, I will love. I have a high energy level and a bubbly personality. I love being around people and meeting new people.
